Cyanobacterial mats and their associated microbiomes in saline and freshwater lakes of the Bolivian Altiplano.

  • by

At the PROINPA Foundation, we contribute to highlighting research exploring microbial diversity in extreme ecosystems. This study on cyanobacterial mats, developed in collaboration with CIIMAR/CIMAR, under the leadership of Dr. Vítor Vasconcellos and Dr. Jimmy Ciancas, reveals unique adaptive mechanisms to UV radiation, salinity, and nutritional stress in high Andean lagoons.

The findings not only strengthen local knowledge but also open the door to sustainable biotechnological solutions with global impact.

Bolivia as a benchmark in science applied to environmental and agricultural challenges.

This work addresses the topic of microbial biodiversity in extremophile environments and represents an important advance in the field of research, development, and sustainable agricultural production.
