AECID INNOVATION project launch

On March 14 and 15, in Camargo and Tupiza respectively, the launch of the AECID INNOVATION project will take place. The main focus is to transfer knowledge and develop technical capabilities of BIOTECH and AGTECH innovations applied to fruit production, by updating professionals and teachers from institutes and universities that replicate students of agricultural careers with a high-impact agroecological approach.

The main objective is to improve organic fruit production and environmental protection in the valleys. The population demands that more and more food be produced, however, the conditions for production are increasingly restrictive. Given this situation, innovations must be developed that represent a viable alternative for agri-food systems, allowing the productivity of crops to be increased and ensuring the sustainability of production and the environment.

The proposed innovations include the principles of agroecological intensification that focus strategies for the sustainable management of peach, apple and grape orchards, cultivated in the inter-Andean valleys of southern Bolivia. One component is the use of biotechnological inputs (BIOTECH) in the different stages of the production cycle, as well as their use in nurseries that provide quality plants to fruit growers. Bioinputs are biological products produced or formulated from microorganisms (fungi, yeasts, bacteria, actinomycetes and viruses), macroorganisms (mites and beneficial insects), plant extracts and bioactive compounds derived from them, which are used to promote the growth of plants and control different types of pests.

These formulations were researched and developed by the PROINPA Foundation for 15 years, today they are produced in a way that can scale and supply the requirements of producers, these inputs have phytosanitary registration and certifications that they meet the standards for organic production . With great expectations and commitment to work, this stage begins for the benefit of the agricultural and productive sector.
